What's it Called
Here you have it folks, click that link above and you can listen to my first song ever. I can't say it feels quite like I've produced an original music track, just because of how easy Soundation.com made it.
I was super overwhelmed by all of the loop options there were and I couldn't figure out what genre I wanted to do, I didn't know what key I should put it in or what the bpm should be. After trying to be independent and ignoring the easy preset packages of sounds, I got frustrated and figured they were probably there for a reason.
So, I went over to the hip-hop starter kit and found a lot of stuff I really liked. Plus, most of it was in the key of Dm and 90 bpm so it cut down a lot of the decision making. Once I got that figured out I found a drum beat I liked and grew from there.
You can kind of hear my process in the song because I have most of the instruments come in one-by-one, and mostly in the order I chose them. Usually went something like: drums, bass, layer, some sort of melody, and some accessories.
That was the main section of the song, but I decided I wanted a little bridge part where I mixed it up to keep it interesting. For this one after layering up the basics I got fancy and broke out the virtual keyboard to record my own little melody part. The synth sound on that melody was a bit aggressive, so I made it a bit quieter to blend it in. Plus, I'm self-conscious about it because it was the only purely original thing I did, even though it was just about three notes.
Overall I had a great experience with Soundation. It came together way quicker than I thought it would once I got into it. I ended up having a lot of fun with it to. Excited to put some video to it next week too!
Oh, and I decided to call this piece "What's it Called", because I think it is a simple track that could be attributed as background music to many different scenes in life. So, I figured everyone may picture something different when listening to it, and therefore want to associate their own ideas with the title. Personally, I picture walking down a busy city street on a vibrant, sunny day.
